Hi. My name is Don O'Keefe. I am a registered Music Together teacher and the director of Music Together of Greater Danbury, LLC. Music Together is an international music and movement program for children from birth through 8 years, and the adults who love them. The program has been around for over 25 years and I have been teaching and directing it for the past 12. My father was a drummer and thanks to him I have been playing drums and percussion all of my life. I studied performance and professional music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA in the early 80's. My time at Berklee was instrumental in my development as a drummer, professional musician and teacher. I have performed professionally with a variety of bands both live and in studios. My recording experience includes records at The Hit Factory and The Manhattan Center Studios in New York City. Some of the many notable musicians I have worked with include: Joan Osborne, Dave Rosenthal, Eileen Ivers, Geoffrey Blythe and Thomas Hamlin. I performed with The Pat McGuire Band for over 15 years, playing extensively along the East Coast including an appearance on national TV on the Late Night with Conan O’Brian Show. While playing with Pat we opened for the likes of, The Band, Squeeze, Tower of Power, The Pogues, Black 47, Joan Osborne and Mary Black. I was fortunate to study privately for a summer with one of my childhood idols, Joe Morrello, from the Dave Brubeck Band. Joe was one of the preeminent masters of technique and what I learned from him that summer I pass on to my students to this day. I currently live in Brookfield, CT with my wife and 2 kids and teach privately as well as playing in some local bands and orchestras. I believe that every drummer, teacher and student alike, has a unique voice to offer to the drum community. Anyone willing to put in the time, can, with the proper guidance become proficient at the drums. If I can do it, you can too. I would love the opportunity to help you on your musical journey. I am offering a complimentary 1st lesson and evaluation of 30 minutes or you can take advantage of an initial 60 minute lesson for the cost of 1/2 hour. Either one can be done in person or online. It is also possible for local students to have me come to their home for an additional fee depending on location and schedule.

I learned drums by ear starting when I was 15 years old. It took me about 4 years of listening to my favorite artists play and trying to recreate what they were doing. I was in a band as I was learning so with the invention of MTV and seeing my favorite bands play I was able to see what they were doing and it helped me learn which toms and cymbals to hit. I played in a few rock bands in the 90's but ego's seemed to stop the progress each band was making. In 2010 I put together a new country band called Nashville Drive and this band got as far as opening for a few national country artist's. It was here that I met some great touring drummers and learned a lot about the different aspects of drumming and time keeping, not playing over the singing etc. In 2011 I found Jared and Dave on a website called freedrumlessons.com. It was there that I saw Mike Michalkow's Drumming System. For years I was missing technique and the understanding of music reading or theory. I've learned so much from the different instructors on Drumeo as it's now known. In late 2014 I quit Nashville Drive due to the enormous overloaded work schedule and my desire to improve my drumming.
