Record Your Drums On A Budget

Victor Guidera  /  UPDATED Aug 22, 2022

Thinking about starting to record your drumming for YouTube, Facebook, or Instagram but you’re on a tight budget? Thankfully you can actually capture a really nice sound without breaking the bank.

In today’s lesson, Drumeo’s audio engineer Victor Guidera will take an inexpensive condenser microphone and show you tips and tricks you can utilize in order to get the best sound and most mileage from a single microphone. He’ll cover the perfect microphone placement, track setup in your DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), and different mixing techniques you can use to achieve the sound you want.

Victor uses a Zoom H4N Pro ($200) in this example, however, you can use any similar model! You can even use the Zoom H1 which goes for just $120.

Jared Falk is a lifelong drummer, drum teacher, and the co-founder of Drumeo. For over 18 years, Jared has been a leader in the online music education industry, publishing his first online video lessons in 2003 and founding Musora in 2005.
