{"id":25213,"date":"2020-09-11T08:08:04","date_gmt":"2020-09-11T15:08:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.drumeo.com\/beat\/?p=25213"},"modified":"2023-11-14T14:19:28","modified_gmt":"2023-11-14T22:19:28","slug":"how-to-play-a-paradiddle-diddle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.drumeo.com\/beat\/how-to-play-a-paradiddle-diddle\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Play A Paradiddle-Diddle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lwAjX__7jF8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Probably one of the most useful rudiments with one of the silliest names, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drumeo.com\/beat\/single-paradiddle-diddle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paradiddle-diddle<\/a> is sometimes confused with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drumeo.com\/beat\/double-paradiddle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">double paradiddle<\/a>, which also consists of six notes (but sounds like &#8216;para-paradiddle&#8217;).<\/p>\n<p>The paradiddle-diddle starts with two singles and ends with two sets of doubles, all played as 8th note triplets (think of it as 3 per beat): RLRRLL<\/p>\n<p>Try to put an accent on the first note of each one if it helps you stay on track.<\/p>\n<p>In this video, Glen explains that the right hand part of the pattern is like the reverse of a standard jazz ride pattern, where you just fill in the missing notes with your left hand.<\/p>\n<p>Like all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drumeo.com\/beat\/rudiments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rudiments<\/a>, the paradiddle-diddle can sound awesome on the drum set in a groove context! Try playing it as triplet 16ths (or sextuplets, 6 per beat) on the hi-hats, adding a snare on 2 and 4 and the bass drum on 1 and 3.
