The single stroke roll is by far the most important rudiment in any drummer’s toolkit. This exercise, created by Pat Petrillo, breaks away from the standard way to practice single strokes and will help keep you engaged. It also works as a drum fill!
Next up are double stroke rolls – another important rudiment to become fluent with. If this lesson is a little too quick for you, check out this more beginner-friendly lesson. Make sure all of your strokes are clear and the same dynamic level!
NOTE: This lesson assumes you already know how to play paradiddles, double paraddidles, and paradiddle-diddles. This exercise is perfect for learning how to chain all three together flawlessly, allowing you to come up with more creative drum fill ideas and improve your overall dexterity.
